Story

Hey, this is a really scary story... I've been working as a nurse at the hospital for over 5 years. But that night shift... I can never forget it. It was a cold night in October 2022. During my night shift around 2 AM, security called suddenly. They said there were "strange sounds from the 6th floor." But the 6th floor had been completely sealed off for renovation for the past month. I went up to the 6th floor with the security chief. The moment the elevator doors opened, something felt wrong. The air was much colder and heavier than other floors. We turned on our flashlights and went in, then heard a 'squeak... squeak...' sound from far away. "Sounds like wheels rolling," the security chief muttered. We carefully walked toward the sound, and it stopped in front of the caregiver's break room at the end of the corridor. When I shined my flashlight... there was a wheelchair. Huh? That's strange. Before renovation, all equipment should have been moved to other floors. When we got closer... it really gave me chills. The wheelchair started moving slowly. Nobody was pushing it. It was as if someone was sitting in it, rolling it themselves. "That's weird... is someone riding it?" The security chief approached. At that moment, the wheelchair stopped. But the seat part was definitely pressed down. Sunken in as if someone was sitting there. When I looked at the wheelchair closely... it seemed familiar. There was a small sticker on the armrest that said 'Kim Young-soon.' Grandma Kim Young-soon... she passed away last year. Grandma had dementia, and every night she would wander the corridors in that wheelchair. She would always stand by the door saying "I need to go home." Even when nurses tried to stop her, she would come out in her wheelchair without fail every night. "Why is Grandma's wheelchair here...?" I muttered without thinking, and at that moment the wheelchair started moving again. This time it slowly approached us... and stopped right in front of my feet. That distance... exactly the same distance Grandma used to stand when she was alive, saying "Nurse, I want to go home." The security chief said "It must be the wind," but all windows on the 6th floor were closed and the air conditioning was off. There was no reason for wind to blow. We quickly left the 6th floor. When we checked again during the day, the wheelchair was neatly arranged in the medical equipment storage room. Nobody knew who moved it there. Even after that, there were several more incidents until the 6th floor renovation was finished. Always between 2-3 AM, always Grandma Kim Young-soon's wheelchair. Later, security stored that wheelchair separately in a warehouse. After renovation was finished and the 6th floor resumed operation, nothing like that happened again. But sometimes I think... Was Grandma really coming out every night because she wanted to go home? Or was it because she didn't want to leave the familiar hospital? And... is Grandma really in a comfortable place now?
