A psychiatric hospital that was located in Gonjiam-eup, Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do, famous as one of CNN's 7 most terrifying places in the world. It was demolished in May 2018 and no longer exists.
Opened in the early 1990s for psychiatric treatment, but additional sewage treatment facilities were required due to amendments to the Water Source Protection Act. The building owner died in 1997 during cost negotiations, complicating the matter. Communication became difficult as the owner's son lived in the US, and the hospital director had no intention of bearing building improvement costs, leading to a natural relocation when the lease expired. Demolition was completed in May 2018.
While numerous paranormal sightings were reported and it was included in CNN's list of scary places, a 2012 Channel A investigation confirmed that major ghost stories including the hospital director's suicide were unfounded. In reality, it was a typical case closed for economic/legal reasons.
